Hide and Seek

Hop, Skip and Jump

Play Fighting

Wandsworth Common, London

I was humbled to be asked to work with War Child, the charity who support children affected by war around the world. The three installations above were created for 20 Years of War Child, a new exhibition celebrating 20 years of the charity's work. The show is being staged at The British Music Experience museum of popular music at the O2 in London, and will feature my works alongside photography and album artwork showcasing War Child's long-running collaboration with the great and good of the music industry. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 19th February and runs until 28th March.

Stroll

Gorky Park, Moscow, Russia

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great festive season and wish you all the best for 2013!

I recently participated in the Question and Answer series for BetteryMagazine.com, in which one creative person asks another a question about the transformation of our cities. In my case I was paired with the singer Nelly Furtado who asked "The bigger, the better - Is that also true of cities?" You can read my reply here as well as see some more of my work.

Balancing Act

Khayelitsha township, Cape Town, South Africa

This installation was left in Khayelitsha, a township in Cape Town, last year. The settlement is home to around 500,000 people and experiences many problems such as poverty, crime and a high rate of HIV infection - an estimated 16% of the population. Life can be tough, especially for children.

This image will be available to purchase from my shows with a percentage of the proceeds going to Baphumelele, a community project in Khayelitsha that aims to help local children. Specifically the money will be used in projects that help children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS - Clemens Cares For Kids which helps children suffering from HIV/AIDS and Baphumelele Children's Home which looks after children who have been orphaned or abandoned.

Skyscraping

Brooklyn Bridge Park, New York, USA

I am currently ramping up for my new show, Global Model Village, which will feature the image above which was taken in New York last year. The show opens September 27th at Andipa Gallery in London and features a mix of installations placed in different cities around the world over the past couple of years.

The show coincides with the launch of my new book - incidentally also called Global Model Village (can you see a pattern here?), which comes out the same day in the UK from Boxtree Macmillan and in the USA from Blue Rider Press. Continuing the international theme, the book will also be released in Germany, from Cadeau / Hoffmann Und Campe, under the title Kleine Leute in der Weiten Welt, with a Japanese version coming early next year too, along with a translation of my first book!

Global Model Village collects together 50 different installations left in cities such as New York, Moscow, Cape Town, Paris, Beijing, Hong Kong and of course London. Most of the images haven't been seen before but the book also includes some favorites from my last show, images taken at Fame Festival in Italy and for my solo show last year in Germany. You can preorder the UK version here, or click the links above for your own country.

We are also organising a pop-up show in New York for early October...

I will post more info on the shows and the books over the next few weeks, but for now here is a sneak peek of the English version, along with a high-tech centrefold. Eat your heart out Playboy!

Faith

Antwerp, Belgium

Some work from last month's outdoor show in Antwerp. A massive thanks to everyone (around 6000!) who turned out, despite the rain, to hunt down the little people. It was a fantastic - and rare - experience for me to see so many people looking for and taking their own shots of the installations and it was great to get to meet so many of you.

............................

You can see a selection of my photography on display this Friday 29th June at the V&A Friday Late  (kindly loaned by my friends at Andipa Gallery!) - and also get the chance to make your own miniature sculptures to display around the museum.
The 'Big Invasion of Small Sculptures' event is being hosted by Drink, Shop & Do. Make a sculpture of your choice with the materials that they'll provide, incorporate it in to the surroundings of the museum, take a picture and upload it - Drink, Shop & Do will be giving away signed copies of my book for the best images taken.

This month's Friday Late is titled 'Un-built: De/Constructing architecture' and there are a ton of other activities, installations and workshops exploring the interplay of art and architecture. And if that sounds too high-brow, there is the usual bar and live music too. Should be a fun night. Check the flyer below for more info or click here.

Mail-order

Gorky Park area, Moscow, Russia

From Russia... to Belgium! Antwerp, to be precise, where you can currently see a small show featuring my work at Lange Lozanastraat 101b in the 2018 area of the city. I will also be in Antwerp from 4-5th May for a street event where installations will be placed around 2018 for you to track down, if you can find them. Fingers crossed for good weather...

You can find more information about the show and event at YOU ARE HERE: Slinkachu in 2018 Antwerpen

Dead Leaves

Embankment, London

Happy new year! It is going to be a busy one for me, preparing for a new book and solo show in early Autumn. First though, I am taking part in The Courtauld Institute of Art's East Wing X: Material Matters show. This opens from the 21th January at the Institute in Somerset House in London - but being a working college it is only open to the public on the last Saturday of each month. If you want to catch the show though, it runs until June 2013, which should give you plenty of opportunity. I have a mix of older and newer work in the show, including the image above, taken near Somerset house at the end of last year. You can also see work by War Boutique, Laura Keeble, Gabriel Dawe, Paula Rego, Damien Hirst, Simon Edmonson and over 30 other artists. My work is downstairs in the cafe, so if you get there early you can probably grab a fry-up too. Find more info here.

I have also produced a book cover for Dimitri Verhulst's book The Misfortunates. It is the first commissioned book cover that I have done and the book is great - it reads like a Belgian version of Shameless, but with more heart. The installation wasn't left on the street like I usually would as I had to shoot a few versions of the cover, but fear not - I am in Antwerp in May, where these little alcoholics will be abandoned to their fates in their homeland. You can check out the book here.
